Footage of live Toxoplasma gondii parasite
Paweł Krzyściak1, Dominika Salamon2, Anna Malska3, Barbara Papir4
Toxoplasma gondii is an important protozoan causing infections worldwide. It is of major importance in pregnant ladies with severe implications to the foetus, including congenital toxoplasmosis, as well as persons who are immunocompromised, causing life-threatening central nervous system and ocular toxoplasmosis. Diagnostics of the parasite is nowadays mostly based on enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for different antibody classes, especially IgM, IgG and IgA with some new approaches, too .
Novel treatment regimens may be found in the latest edition of the Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy .
The following footage was made during the preparation steps of the Sabin-Feldman Dye Test, which used to be the reference test for toxoplasmosis at our department (Figures 1-2).
